A Day in the Sun

We’ve been trying to get this one together for a while. The summers been a bit variable but it took our mind to those sunny days when you’ve got nothing to do but look forward to the night ahead. Standard issue when you’re on holiday but a bit more unusual here in the studio. The sort of day that begins a bit woozy and slow, moves up tempo as the day moves on and the drinks come out then heads into the darkness, only to emerge in the sunshine for the walk home.

We’ve gone with a mixed bag: there’s up-front tracks such as the talented Anderson.Paak & Knxwledge’s modern, laid-back R&B; Sam Blans tropical stomp and Maribou State’s update on downtempo (as well as its parentage in the form of David Joseph). Woozy beginnings from the excellent The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Plantains with a bit of disco love mid way and ending with a trip into the dark courtesy of Juan Atkins, Larry Heard and Underworld. Matthew Dear is there to walk you home in the sun though.
