LOL Studio Shuffle December

Here we have another little peek into what got a lot of play in the last month or so in the Labour of Love studio. As always, it’s a pretty mixed bag but we’ve tried to kick it into some kind of sequence - though transitioning from New Jack Swing to freaky modern Hip Hop’s never going to be that smooth. We went for a Kelsey Lu bookending as we’ve really been liking what she’s put out. In between we managed to shove in a bit of our current favs Smerz as well as a bit of Soft Hair and Nigerian Soul before we jumped off into the more electronic second half.

Most of the electronica is house leaning though we did manage to get in a bit of Mala (sub recommended) and that incredible reworking of Abba’s SOS by Portishead. It’s probably not a bad approximation of a normal day on our stereo; starts off slow, takes in a bit of eclectic flavour then getting more electronic and propulsive to get the day finished.

There’s probably something for everyone - unless you leave comments on the Guardian music pages. In that case there’s no prescription. And no; you can’t just type ’emperor’s new clothes’ and people will think you an unblinkered intelectual of exceedingly good taste. Soz…
